Hiring Procedures

Staff:

As of January 2009, we are implementing a new recruitment process. The general details of the new procedure can be found in this attached memorandum to all hiring managers. Please note, we no longer accept forms Part I and Part II.

Slides from the training sessions for managers conducted in January and February are now available by clicking here. They provide extensive details on the new process.

For all other recruitment process inquiries, please contact our Employment Manager, Lisa Koker at extension 4173.

Non-student: The Office of Human Resources no longer maintains a pool of temporary workers. In instances when an office or department is in need of temporary assistance, Human Resources will arrange for temporary workers through one of the services used by the University (e.g., Kelly Services, Manpower, etc.), or will assist the manager in identifying an agency or temporary worker. In cases where a manager identifies and hires a temporary worker who will be a CUA employee rather than an employee of a temporary agency, it is imperative that the manager submit a completed Employee Data Form no later than the first day on which the employee works. The Employee Data Form must have the signature of the cognizant Vice President before it is sent to Human Resources. All temporary employees who are not from a temporary services agency must report to the Office of Human Resources on the first day of employment to fill out employment paperwork that is required by law. Failure to obtain the required paperwork from employees puts the University at risk of being assessed sizable fines by the federal government, particularly the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

Student Workers: To review the proper procedures for hiring student employees, please review the presentation created by Human Resources and the General Counsel entitled Supervising Student Employees. Please note that procedures for hiring Student Employees were established in preparation for the 1997-1998 school year and will remain consistent with the correspondence distributed announcing the implementation of the Student Employment Coordinators.
