Human Resources

Harassment Prevention Training
Harassment Prevention Training is required for all employees of CUA (faculty, staff and student workers). The training consists of a 16 minute video presentation followed by a short quiz. A confirmation e-mail and supporting documentation is included as part of the training. Re-training is required every two (2) years.

Form I-9
Certain positions across campus require completing Form I-9’s as part of their responsibilities. Check your position description or ask your immediate supervisor/manager for more details. If your position requires you to complete Form I-9s contact the human resources training team. You must be trained first before you can complete any forms. To remain certified you must attend all refresher sessions.

FERPA Awareness
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) awareness training is required to be taken by all employees of CUA (faculty, staff and student workers). The training is a 15-25 minute tutorial followed by a short quiz. There are three types of FERPA trainings available based on school/department/office. Supporting material and confirmation e-mail is provided. Re-training is required every two (2) years.

HIPAA Awareness
The Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) serves to protect not only confidential medical information but also pension and benefit related information. Those employees working with benefit related information, must complete an in person or online training as directed by the Benefits Director. Refresher training is required once (1) a year.

Compliance Awareness Training
Compliance Awareness Training focuses on educating the CUA community on regulatory risks in common University activities and the resources in place to help avoid such risks. A confirmation e-mail and supporting documentation is included as part of the training. Re-training is required every two (2) years.
 

New Employee Orientation
Newly hired staff are required to complete new employee orientation at the beginning of their employment.  Orientation occurs most Thursdays in Leahy Conference Room 100 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  There is a one-hour lunch break at 12:00 p.m.  Contact your HR representative if you have any questions.

Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) New Employee Orientation
Employees new to CUA must complete the EH&S training video as part of new employee orientation. See New Employee Orientation.

Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Job Requirements
Specific training is required for certain campus jobs as mandated by the EH&S. Refer to your position description or check with your immediate supervisor. A quick list of job specific training is available by job/activity. Visit the Employee Training Page to log in. Safety Guides and Manuals are also available.

Operational

Academic Scheduling
Enrollment services offers training on developing academic schedules, using Cardinal Station to plan schedules, and adhering to CUA academic scheduling policies. One-on-one training is required for all new employees to gain access to the appropriate scheduling functions in Cardinal Station. Blackboard Training
Blackboard training is offered to faculty and students. Detailed training information can be found on CPIT's training website. For faculty, training includes assistance with course set up and advice on how to best utilize Blackboard to enhance and compliment the classroom experience. To get started submit a Help Request.

Event Space Requests
Campus space is available to schedule events, rooms, or meetings. If you are new to the process, review the following training videos.  Additional scheduling information can be found on the scheduling website.

Finance Orientation
The Office of the Controller Manages Finance Orientation training. Training sessions are usually held three (3) times a year based on need. Finance orientation is mandatory for all employees who use Cardinal Financials. Contact Sheri Hardison tel: 202-319-5031 to sign up. Presentation material is available for review.

E-mailing Large Groups
A Mailing List is an e-mail address set up to send to multiple recipients. E-mail communications can be sent out more easily with less time, while guaranteeing the privacy of list members. Before being granted access to CUA's mailing list system, you must complete a short training through CPIT. To schedule, submit a Help Desk Request.

Procard Training
The Procurement card program is a tool to streamline and simplify the Purchasing and Accounts Payable functions. The Catholic University of America Procurement Card (also known as Procard) is issued to individuals throughout campus. Prior to being granted a procard, employees must complete an hour long one on one training with a member of the Procurement Team. Contact the department tel: 202-319-5044.

Safe Driver Training Program
Guidelines and Procedures Manual
Staff and faculty who drive on behalf of university business (campus and non-campus vehicles) must successfully complete an online training tutorial at the beginning of employment and every three (3) years thereafter. Contact Andrew Wolf tel: 202-319-5602.

Web Content Editing
Topaz
CUA's Web Content Management system is known as Topaz. Introductory and refresher training is offered by Dr.Saiid Ganjalizadeh 202-319-6411; and Eric Gramatges tel: 202-319-4768. Additional support material can be found by logging onto Topaz under “Help & Documentation” and on Guides.cua.edu.

Work Study Supervision

Skill Development

Microsoft Office 2010 Training Resources (CPIT)
Microsoft has made available to CUA employees free Microsoft Office 2010 training. If you are still using Microsoft 2007, there is information on making the switch to Microsoft 2010.
